In order to get the man she had been obsessing about, Shelby Hollier has done unimaginable and unladylike things. Like stealing Solomon Tremaine’s wallet, stalking his home and trespassing upon his property. Before she knows it, she is sucked into a wormhole and into a world she never imagined still existed. Welcome to Dover Castle. A place where things are never what they seem...

A very different take on time travel. This book is written for younger readers and would be considered a YA time travel romance. There is a lot of violence but part of this story takes place in medieval times, so I thought the violence was appropriate to that time period. If you don't like that kind of think, steer clear of this book. Since it is a YA romance, the love scenes are pretty vanilla.

I don't know if this is the first book in this type of series but I did find it difficult to figure out who everyone was and what their "talent" was in the family. That being said, this is a stand alone book because it ties up some things at the end, but leaves a lot open if you want to read more about this family. I didn't find this book that interesting to want to continue reading, so this will be a one-and-done for me.

It's not for everyone. You may think of giving up at the begining. It's too much of a mix of time travelling, or time jumping, to and from, mixed with a paranormal part that's hard to understand, with medieval and modern struggles. But once you get the way of It, it's a Very interesting story, with a Nice couple among a good family. Again, not easy to follow, specially If you don't like the genre. My low point was, as a Brazilian, that I knew that something wrong was gonna be said in relation to the girl's Brazilian heritage. And of course It happened. If you're going to mention another culture, please do some reasearch.
This story grows on you. At first I thought t this would be a nice way to pass the time, but the further I got into it, the more I enjoyed it. Oftentimes stories like this get silly and more than ridiculous. Although it has it moments of silliness, it makes up for that in other ways. It is so refreshing to read a love story where the love is based on mutual respect instead of lust. Yeah, the good guys tend to be a bit too good at times but then they show their foibles and flaws so it all balances out.
Very interesting and different time travel story! Loved the characters and that they travelled to several time periods throughout the book. There were different sets of characters for each time period, so there were really too many characters to follow, which was sometimes confusing. Also confusing were a few activities that needed more explanation. It seemed rather unreasonable that Shelby's family did not question her boyfriend or her activities with him, or the bodyguard sent to protect her at all times. I mean really; no questions at all? Other things that were hard to explain were also ignored. But it is a fantasy, so it doesn't have to be logical at all times. I enjoyed the story in spite of it!
To date, this is the only book I've read in this series. I got it for free via Unlimited, so my expectations were pretty low. I was hoping for an entertaining time-waster without explicit love scenes, and The Heir certainly fit the bill. I finished it in a few hours, was indeed entertained if slightly annoyed, and didn't need to sanitize my eyes afterward.

The first few chapters had many twists and turns that were a little difficult to digest, including time travel, wormholes, memory wipes, and supernatural beings. However, I'm a big scifi/fantasy reader, so I was able to muddle through and figure it all out eventually. But, that might be a big turn off for those only interested in the historical romance genre. There was also some gory violence, but it wasn't out of context considering the context of medieval knights. Personally, I found the story to be a unique blend of tropes and willingly soldiered on.

The main reason I kept reading was Solomon's uncharacteristic reveal of low self esteem. Although gorgeous, talented, brave, and altogether seemingly perfect, Solomon was quite surprising in that he had some pretty major flaws, which I found endearing. He was not what I expected, and thus I wanted to see what happened to him as the story continued.

The main female character, Shelby, was not what I expected after reading the synopsis. I normally dislike extreme fangirls, but while she displayed many of their outward traits, she acted more like a regular girl with a crush when she was with Solomon. So, I had a hard time disliking her. Still, she was one of the weaker characters, and the story could have been better with a less wishy-washy girl.

The other characters, especially Solomon's siblings, were very entertaining. Had Peter's book been ready when I finished The Heir, I might have bought it. He, in particular, appealed to me as I tend to favor redeemable rakes. However, the villains were underused and too easily overcome, which made the climax of the book rather anticlimactic. Instead, the story was wrapped up with a bow of juvenile romance, which felt rather humdrum after all the action and fighting we were introduced to early on.

Onward to the nitty gritty, there were many grammar, word choice, and phrasing errors littered throughout the book and epilogue. Some scenes were written so poorly that I wondered if the characters were also contortionists; even after re-reading the scenes several times, I still couldn't make sense of their poses. There were also some serious mistakes due to inadequate investigation of topics, such as dead languages (No, French Creole is not dead), the language of Brazil (Portuguese, not Spanish), and human sex determination (ovum do not determine sex).

Overall, the story was rather fresh and fun, but it could have been improved with more editing. I'd give it a 3.5/5, but since I'm feeling generous and can't give half stars, it gets a 4. 😉
What do I think? Let me tell you this...I read the book before going to sleep and never got that sleep. I read it in one sitting. I read it the whole evening. By the time I finish it, it was already dawn. I tried to stop reading but obviously that didn't happen. It was that good. The same thing has happened to me, if I remember it correctly, when I read The Guardian and Category Jeremy.

Book 1 is about Elizabet and Jareth - the parents. Book 2 is about Beau and Jeremy - their oldest (adopted) son. On this book, we are having a look on Solomon's life - their first natural-born son and also their legal heir. Although the major theme of the entire series is on how the Tremaines meet their spouses, Shelby and Solomon's story feels different to me. Maybe it's because Shelby was head over heels attracted with Solomon right from the beginning? She is different. I like her better than Beau. I think as the series progress and we meet more characters, there will really come a time that we will be able to pick our favorites.

For obvious spoiler reasons, I can't tell more about Book 3. What I can tell you is you better start reading these books. It's getting more exciting by the chapter.
